We Wish you a Merry Grinchmas

Its nice to finally sit down and write an entry, although I know in a few minutes I will either have a crying baby, or a grumpy toddler, so I have to make it quick. Cheerio the elf has been with us for over a week now, she hasn’t done anything too crazy. I am lucky enough where my daughter doesn’t expect big crazy things yet thankfully, because after bed time I am just too tired. The other night when Cheerio brought Grinchmas to us I was up till 1am helping that elf create a cute little Grinch day for my daughter.

My post is mainly to share our first holiday theme day with you, Grinchmas didn’t go as good as I had planned, maybe two is too young to really enjoy the Grinch, but we tried.

She woke up that morning to Cheerio sitting on our “fire place”, with a newly purchased Grinch book, the Grinch, and a cute little poster I had made to decorate later on in the day. She was excited about the book, but as soon as I tried to read it to her she lost interest, I think maybe its just too long of a book. Once I was finished, we had breakfast and I made Santa hats with bananas, strawberries, and cream. I was going to add grapes but for almost $4 a lb, Cheerio and Santa could not afford grapes to make the Grinch.

Afterwards we made Grinch hand prints, which went on the little sign I had made, which is still hanging above my “fire place”. Then it was time to start baking cookies, which of course was an all day project, and trying to get a two year old not to touch anything after touching the dough was fun too.

While we waited for the cookies to bake, I decided now was a good time to watch the Grinch, and it definitely worked out better because dinner took longer than expected.

Speaking of dinner, I found a recipe for Who Hash, and it tasted pretty good. Reminded me of breakfast. I made it with Potatoes, ham, peas, carrots, and onions. Turned out yummy, but a lot of work and by the time we sat down to eat it was almost 8pm.

It was a simple day, and I think she had fun.

My next planned day is on Friday, and we are doing Frosty. I have some fun ideas in mind which includes making homemade donuts.

Before I end my entry, here are some pictures from our Grinch day, hope you enjoy.

Learning Together

Life has been hectic with my two girls recently, haven’t even posted our Cinderella day yet. I think that was my daughters favorite theme day yet. I have so many pictures from that day, and I plan on writing about it soon.

For today here is a small idea of something to do with kids who don’t go to school yet, but are wanting to learn. I have searched many BLOGs for ideas, and we have created our own “school days”. I have a lot of planned projects, and other activities to teach my daughter things in a fun way. She was really excited for our ” segool” days. Haha. I love the way they pronounce words at this age.

For our first day we started a calendar with a weather chart and a season chart. We also have been singing the days of the week song, to the tune of the Adams family song. IMG_20140902_101816628

After we fill in the calendar for the day, we read a book that goes with our theme of the week. This week we are doing “about me” and “feelings”. So today we read, Today I Feel Silly; by Jamie Lee Curtis.

After we read it I made feeling puppets and we sang, “if your happy and you know it”, using mad, sad, happy, and scared. I was shocked that she knew what each emotion was.

We also did a simple about me project and I had cut out each letter of her name, and took a picture of her signing the letter. We are big Signing Time fans. I also had her lay down on paper, and I traced her. She colored in her hair, and clothes and drew her face. She did pretty good.for being two.

The last thing we did just for fun was made some fall decorations, and put them up on the window.

She had fun making projects and learning new things. I had fun learning new songs, and fun ways to teach her. I also have a theme day planned, so hopefully that will happen soon.

Not Pinterest Perfect (an introduction)

I am one of those mo ms who gets an idea off Pinterest, and other blogs, and tweaks them to what I have around the house. My daughter loves when I find a new project for her to do. I usually don’t have the right tools or pieces to make it Pinterest perfect, but I try.

After I find all the tools and things I need I try to lay it out neatly. Here is where it all goes wrong. I look at the picture of how the blogger set things out. Its always so perfect, then I look at mine and think; wow why do I even bother trying to make it perfect? My daughter doesn’t care how neat I lay out the stuff. She is just planning to make a mess anyway.

Today we decided to make these frozen banana pop things to eat after lunch. Well the recipe calls for peanut butter.. My daughter is two and I am the – haven’t done peanut butter yet mom. It also showed all these items i don’t keep in my house like; coconut, nuts, etc. So I grab the next best thing; chocolate sprinkles and chocolate chips.

So I lay everything out “neatly”, and attempt to quickly set up before she destroys it. We have everything ready and before I can show her what to do she is eating the chocolate ingredients. *sigh*

So after showing her she gets all excited. She dips the cut up banana pieces into the yogurt, and the other ingredients too. She is happy making a mess and eating it as she makes it. I love watching her face light up as we find something new to do. The chocolate chips are falling off the banana, since we didn’t use peanut butter to help it stick, and the sprinkles are going everywhere. I look at the mess in the pan that we just made, and then look at my phone. The picture on the internet looks so perfect, and ours well… it looks like a mess, but to her its a beautiful masterpiece that she made.

I always laugh at those NAILED IT! photo’s. You know the pictures of Pinterest ideas gone wrong.  I laugh because that is how our projects usually turn out. But to us it doesn’t matter what it looks like, as long as we had fun along the way.
