Blast off

August has officially come and is almost gone, which means time to organize my thoughts for September. Monster is going to pre k for a few hours every day, but wants more “Mommy school”. I also plan on doing Letter of The Week with Banana. So I have been a bit scatter brained trying to come up with some lessons that aren’t too crazy. This is our last week of summer themes before we start our Back to School Theme. Next week I am dedicating my time to clean the house and organize before school starts and craziness begins.

The first week of August we went to the circus. I have to admit I had a lot of fun setting the whole thing up, from the wall decorations to the concession stand, it was exciting for me. On Monday I had the girls (with the fake money I made out of construction paper) Buy their tickets to the Circus. They bought popcorn and water as well. Then it was on with the show. They both gathered in the tent, while circus music played in the background. I had searched youtube for about a week just looking for circus videos for kids. Found a great cartoon that held their attention for the full ten minutes it was on. They sat in the tent ate popcorn and watched the show. None of us have ever been to one of those big circus shows that come around, so I joined in the fun and acted as if we were really there. Our week had many unexpected plans which happens in the summer time. We didn’t get to do all of the projects I had planned, and that was fine with me, I saved it all for another day. We made a popcorn craft, which I was going to use cotton balls for, but decided last minute to just use two cotton balls. The girls dipped them in yellow paint instead. I liked the way they turned out, even though I wanted the popping out effect, it still looked great. We also made Clowns with paper plates and pom poms. It was a fun week, I was sad to take down my decorations I had a blast making them, thankfully I can always do it again.

Camping was week number two, we started our week off roasting missing vowel and ABC marshmallows. I saw the idea on Pinterest and was excited to have fresh ink for my printer to print out pictures of marshmallows. We played the game throughout the week, the girls enjoyed it. I left out the fake candles we used for the fire so they could play, but half way through the week I had to put away the candles, Banana decided she would eat the candle… Our craft for the week was making tents out of craft sticks, I was very proud of Banana and how well she did with the paint. We didn’t try to eat it, and we didn’t get it on our clothes. We had an outdoor camping scavenger hunt where we looked for things we might see if we were camping. Monster had a blast looking for bugs with the magnifying glass. I had planned on a big sleepover in the tent in our living room, but banana was not ready for that. She would not sit still, and the tent got very warm with us inside. So we read our nighttime books, I shut off the lights and made a fake campfire with the help of youtube, and the fake candles. We had s’more ice cream; Vanilla ice cream, melted chocolate, graham crackers, and marshmallows. It was a fun week, hopefully next year we can camp out in the tent.

I had planned on making a rocket ship out of cardboard, but Monster insisted we use the tent, so for week three we blasted off into space in our tent. Our first mission was to the moon, but before my mini astronauts were able to take off they had to complete a training course. We read a book about blasting into space, followed by a discussion on Astronauts. We made a chart stating what they can do, in which Monster told me they can go to the moon. What they have: space helmets, and what they are: she said boys, and girls. Then they had to complete a physical training course. We went through a tunnel, did jumping jacks, and they walked on a line of construction paper like a balance beam. Once they passed the test they were given badges, and afterwards we set off into space. When we got to space we headed to the moon, and once we landed we played with some “moon sand” aka kinetic sand. When we got back from the moon the girls checked out some items we brought home from space in our sensory box. We made two projects for space week, one included a footprint rocket ship, and then we made planets. I cut circles from paper plates and put the circles in a sandwich bag with paint and had them mush it around, little man even got involved and had a tummy time painting session. We still have a few more things that we didn’t get to, and that’s okay because for the next two weeks I will be prepping for the school year so there is plenty of time to go back to the things we missed.

For my next BLOG I will write about my back to school week, and the back to school party I plan on having for Monster. I found a cute idea on pinterest (the most addicting site on the planet) lol. Below you can check out the pictures from our adventures this past month.

Another early morning here in my house has given me the motivation to write a new BLOG entry. It’s been about two years maybe since the last, and we have done so much and have come so far. My previous computer bit the dust, and writing entries on my phone was a disaster, and I would always end up losing my whole entry. Now I am back in action with a new computer, and an additional child. Three kids four and under has definitely been a challenge. Right now my little man; out newest addition is having his usual early morning grump fest, as I sit here and hope that my two year old Banana stays asleep in her crib for another few hours, and also hoping my oldest Monster doesn’t roll off my bed, since I jumped ship into the living room.

Now to get onto the good stuff, as you know my BLOG features the fun little adventures we have while doing our now titled “School Days”. Although Monster will be starting pre K in the fall, its free I’ll take it, she told me “Mommy when I get home from school, we will do Mommy school at Mommy’s house.” Okay kid, fine with me, so now I sit here during day time feeds and night time feeds pinning every resource I can find, and hand writing in a notebook (old school I know) a fun and easy curriculum that maybe I can pass down to Banana and Little Man. Although Banana is currently going through ABA after being diagnosed mildly autistic, I still plan on using our free time to do some fun little activities on our own. Plus I now have little man, and have been researching fun things for him as well. Between that and trying to keep up with house work and playing it has been hectic but enjoyable.  Currently I am working on the new school year, trying to rewind back to letter of the week for Banana, while adding in some pre k lessons for Monster. I have September through December outlined and just finished September’s full lesson plans.

To catch you up on some of the things we have done, this past school year we did a whole slew of themes, from outer space to our recent “trips” to Italy and Ponyville (you know where the My Little Pony’s live) it’s been a busy adventure. My goal for this BLOG is to start slowly getting back into writing about our learning adventures, in hopes that I can inspire someone to maybe to do the same with their little’s. Please ignore my terrible grammar, it’ not my thing hah, I think I need to hire an editor, ha.

So here are some of the activities we have recently done, I plan on really starting to BLOG in August when we start our new themes. This month we traveled the world, we learned a little about America, Africa, Italy, Japan, and this week Hawaii.  I am going to throw some pictures of our traveling through July month in this BLOG. For now it’s time for me to try to squeeze some me time in with a little Sailor Moon, or maybe some extra sleep. Yawn. Hope you enjoy! Look out for my next BLOG coming in August.
